FAQs
Home care services are services someone receives from the comfort of their own home. For example, if there was an older adult who needed some additional help or support with their personal health and well-being, a personal home care service nurse will visit as little or as often as requested to help with personal care tasks such as medication pick up, management, light domestic care, and personal care such as bathroom assistance. Home care services are best used by those who still want to remain at home independently but would benefit from some additional support.
Anyone can qualify for home care services as they are typically self-funded services. However, they are best suited for individuals who wish to remain at home but would benefit from additional care. This could be older adults with long term health conditions, people recovering from health issues/operations, or an elderly person who needs support but does not wish to live in a care home just yet.
Home care services include:
- Mealtime support / meal prep
- Bathing and personal hygiene assistance
- Medication assistance
- Dressing/undressing
- Daily tasks and getting out and about
- Shopping assistance
- Mobility support
- Light domestic support
If you are considering a home care agency you should research all the local care agencies near you and see if they offer home care services on their website. If not, contact all your local care homes and ask them specifically if they cover any of these services. If they do, it should be listed as one of their official services on their website.
If you are unhappy with the services offered by your care service provider, or your experience with them, you should contact them immediately and alert them to any issues you have.
